Aluminum parts done, fuel lines ready, exhaust system complete with wastegate and lambda sensor. Electrics under construction. LordMrFord will deliver us a Megasquirt maybe next week and all we still need is eight 30 lbs/hour injectors... This may even run this summer w00t
By charliemccraney - 17 Years Ago
That looks great. Any plans to start selling the headers?

Crazy, man, Crazy!

You guys do great work, makes me want one.
By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
Holy Cow! We did it. 272 Y-block with Megasquirt controlled fuel injection ran a while at the bench and started almost immediately. Idle was smooth and A/F was correct. Full report with pics and maybe even with video link coming later.... Tongue

Oh, please give us video! Or at least sound!

First start with efi in 272 without turbo. 19 lb injectors because nothing else wasn't easy available (no money, no fun Tongue). Fuel line was connected to Hollow Machines regulator and fuel pump.

Fuel line goes to Hollow Machines regulator.

IT'S RUNNING!!!! w00t

Look that smile!!!! Tongue

And now FUN begins!!!!                                                                      Yfreak57, Hollow Head and LordMrFord.

To be continued...

If you guys dont have a job. Call NASA I am sure they could use you. Cool Pics
By bird55 - 17 Years Ago
Very Cool, can't wait to see more updates. keep goin!
By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
30 lbs injectors will be at our hands on Saturday, so then we can do some more tinkering around the engine. Now we just focus on to do some modifications to the cooling and intercooling systems for Hollow Machine. And some more holes to the grill also BigGrin. And then we remove the MSD 6AL because Megasquirt has it's own rev limiter and some other fine issues Wink.

BTW. What the heck is NASA? Needing Alcohol, So Addicted association or something BigGrinBigGrin ?

Congratulations,

You guys knock me out!  Lots to be proud of there, time, thinking, labor, money, and exotic looking.  You give me inspiration because next race season we have plans to run turbos on the Bonneville Y-Block, but, heavens, nothing as intense as yours!

Again congratulations to all of you................

By bird55 - 17 Years Ago
ok, I thought it over long and hard and I'm sending you a check for one.

Do you think I'll have any clearance issues with my 55bird?

Tongue

seriously, what kind of data are you getting from your PC?

Frank, I knew that Smile. Just kidding, you know... I wonder if the Finns had had the money and time to plan spaceships back in the old times after WW II, we would have been there first!  I mean the moon BigGrinBigGrin.

Absolutely, you will have and lots of them... BigGrin.

We have data from RPM, TPS sensor position, Spark advance (if we would have that opinion), MAP, A/F ratio, Duty Cycle for injectors, coolant temperature and intake air temperature. May be even more, but LordMrFord knows that better. I just plan and fabricate the hard parts for the project because my brain capacity is limited Smile.

[Hollow Head wrote] my brain capacity is limited Smile.

That's because we have that hole in our heads!!! BigGrinBigGrinBigGrin

Im just wait that neckcrushing accel enrichment tuning session.

I still wonder, that she needed only two starts to run. My first injection needed few months.

I hope the bottom end of that motor is full of good parts, you're going to need them.w00t what was the rocket/jet engine?

Bottom end is C2 truck Y-Block with heavier con rods. Jet engine is real space shuttle motor Wink.

By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
All the parts are now on our 292 truck block and we started it today. Idles well, but fuel maps for acceleration and driving situations must be made 9.8.-10.8. when we are driving at Alastaro Circuit at Ford Nationals event. Even we are not so stupid to test drive that Hollow Machine at public roads BigGrin. We would love to....but. Ok, and the throttle cable and kick down cable must be modified first to be able to drive again. But we do have high hopes to make it fly through the quarter mile w00t.
By davis - 17 Years Ago
now that's different! very cool.

Rocket engine is a real space shuttle engine ! Jet engines need air to run, rockets don't. And, what I belive, there ain't no air at space BigGrin Study your books, Jyrki! Wink

Blaa blaa!

And Seppo; Distributor needs rotor to work properly! TongueTongueTongue

more updates please..lol
By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
Sorry Apache! I forgot to post more info here, but check out that Ford Nationals 2008 topic from the Racing department. It works, it has plenty of power and it's unsafe at any speed when installed to our Hollow Machine rat rod. And it's very much easier to tune up with turbo than it was with dual carbs. Just one set of injectors and a laptop BigGrin

By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
Hey Reed P! Could we have more updates about this also?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNQM5_qB2MQ

There is a lot's of turbos blowing out there......BigGrin

Meanwhile we here in Finland are falling into winter sleep like bears just to wake up for the next spring with something new again... hopefully BigGrinBigGrin.
By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
No... we are not sleeping yet w00t. The plan is set so that someday, during November, we will go ahead and put this engine to the dyno. All four of us ( me, yfreak57, teros292 and LordMrFord ) are willing to see how our Efi-Turbo-292 performs at the dyno. We have already contacted the guy at the dyno shop and he is willing to test our engine. He has never done that with a Y-block and that gives a new challenge to him also. We have to make some little additions to the engine before we can do that safely and so some new holes must be made to the exhaust side for more lambdas and some probes to be installed and some probes to the intake side and then we go. And we need to lift that thing out of Hollow Machine too, but that is a piece of a cake. Just wait and see.... BigGrin

Also, the story for the YBM is in progress. So far three A4 sheets is done and more is coming out of my hollow head. I'll be a long story, but atleast we here in Finland have a long and dark winter to read it over...BigGrin
By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
Allright... here is a recent update to that Efi Y-block thing. We just put that wide band O2 sensor to our Hollow Machine and did a short test that it works. And it works... BigGrin Now we just need to separate the engine from the chassis and then to the dyno we go w00t.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqSuzbN7TLM&feature=channel  nothing fancy, just plain ol' laptop tuning Wink

By Hollow Head - 17 Years Ago
Jep, the Dyno-day for single turbo efi Y-block is on 13th of December! Can't wait until then.. Smile To explode or not to explode, that's the question w00t
