My machinist has got me in contact with someone who has a VR57 with mounting bracket, bonnet, and the crank pulley. The blower has been rebuilt. However, it is a 10 year old rebuild. What is a fair offer for something like this? I have yet to see it but I will need a starting point for bargaining.

Charlie:

Don't let the half dozen or so F car specialists know about it, or you'll probably be topping $3500 to outbid them.

John

PS I'm not one of them, my pockets aren't deep enough.

Depends on if you are buying or selling!

Well i finally saw it. It's the VS57. So I probably won't be able to put it to good use.

Did you get a price? Chuck

Charley,

I bought a vs57 a few years ago for $300. The Studebaker guys use them. The trick is to find the correct mounts for a Y block. Paradise wheels in Ca. should be able to supply pulleys and brackets for your application.

I've bought several but am always looking for additional parts etc. Never know what might pop up. I've paid from $100 to $400 for them in varying conditions. Never hurts to ask! Young guy came up to me in Dearborn (after Colombus) and said he had a rebuilt paxton SN60 unit that was polished and had some brackets and pulleys with it for Fords. Seems his dad was a Y's Guy back in the day. Anyway I asked for price and immediately forked over the $150 he asked for. You just never know! Chuck in NH

Chuck,

We never got to the price. He has the brackets, bonnet, crank pully, and idler pulley. I was not able to find the brackets on the vs57 website so I used a spare timing cover to see how it goes together. They seem correct. The brackets number is F101C and the idler arm number is 37603 with F-20940 in an oval. The blower id is VS57S 102205. I did not find any part numbers on the other parts. It mounts on the passenger side.

I won't be able to use it with my current project because the engine will be well above 300hp (I'm hoping) , naturally aspirated. According to the vs57 website the blower has a limit of about 350hp. So there will not be much to gain by using the vs57. I would like to have it just to have it but I prefer that it gets used, as it should.

I can get you in touch with him if you are interested.

If you could get a price I would appreciate it. I expect it will be too high for my current budget but like I said "you never know". As far as the Mccullouch only being good to 350 HP. I know severl running of 300+ engines. Also the later Paxton are seen on some pretty stout cars. ?? Chuck in NH

Chuck,

I'm waiting for him to reply with the price. He's a truck driver so he can't get to his e-mail too often. I haven't forgot.

He wants $1500.00. Everything seems to be in great shape. If anyone's interested, let me know. I'll get you in contact with the guy.

Thanks,

Not an unreasonable price but beyond my budget. The brackets and lower pulley are often hard to locate and cost $400 + repop. Chuck
