I know that a gasket set with the heat crossover blocked in the intake manifold can be purchased. If I want to use a regular gasket set how can I block that passage?I can buy a regular one where I live but not the special set without buying it from a US supplier like Tee-Bird.I am in Canada by the way. Thanks Mark

In the old days I used thin aluminum sheet. I can't recommend a thickness, just thin enough you don't have to much in there to try to compress with the gasket.

Mark, here's an idea that works, believe it or not.I stuffed the passage in the heads with Bondo.I have put about 15,000 miles on that set of heads without a problem of any kind and the paint is still on the manifold.I put a paper towel in first to block the passage and then filled the remaining 2 inches or so with the Bondo.I drive this car in all kinds of weather, including winter with no problems.

Mark: Those special gaskets merely restrict, not block the passage. They are listed for truck 292s and should be available at your local parts store. I have used pieces of tin can between the gasket and the manifold to block the passages. John in Selma, IN

I used some shim stock. You can also get some thin sheet aluminum at local hardware store.

I just used to cut a piece out of a coke or beer can. That's been 40 years ago and they may have been thicker back then and were probably steel instead of aluminum but should work.

I guess the concensus is that it is better to block it off completely than to use the truck gasket. Maybe if you drove the car in cold weather a little, the truck gasket would be better?

Thanks for all the suggestions!I have some aluminum flashing left from roofing job.Just wasn't sure aluminum would handle the heat OK.Am I OK with this aluminum?I would like to cut the heat passage right off because I don't run in cold weather and want to cool the carb as much as possible. Thanks Mark

I suggest drinking a six pack of your favorite beer first.
Then you'll have plenty of material to work with!!
