For some time now a company on EBay has been offering new Y-Block Thunderbird tach drive distributors for $229.95.  I am considering buying one for my Tbird.  Has anyone used these units?  If so, are they a viable option?

Phil, I guess you didn't see Ted's post. He tested one and liked the results.

I'm considering the CRT distributor. They have coils and Packard wire sets, too. They claim to have a wire set specifically for Y-blocks/Tbirds, but I'm concerned that they might not be the correct length. If you/anyone else tries them, let us know.

So far, so good on mine.  16 dyno pulls, 402 hp, 5 speed install, street driven.  Joe-JDChttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/5909a4fa-1606-4dc4-8c15-43a0.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/f40de26f-8ec8-4453-99d6-006b.jpg

Thanks for the feedback.  I seemed to remember Ted's post was positive.  Couldn't find the link.  Do you run it as it comes or modify the advance curve?

JDC, are you using their coil and Packard plug wires?

Swapped to softer springs to allow full advance in quicker, Ford/Jacobs electronic coil, MSD wires, resistor deleted.  Initial ~18*, total 37*.  This engine and transmission swap made the car fun to drive.  I don't have to worry about anybody honking for me to get out of the way, now.  Joe-JDC

I can remember when people honked at antique/classic cars with approval, not disapproval. Sometimes I wonder if people appreciate anything.

Here are a couple of links to past discussions regarding the CRT / TSB Thunderbird specific tach drive distributors that are now available.
