I am replacing the passenger window on my 1955 ford and when I remove the door handle and window crank those clips that hold them on go flying. Fortunately I found them but is there a way to catch them thanks

Ive taken the handles off my 54 a number of times and never had them do that. Only thing I can suggest is to put your hand over the fat end of the handle to catch them.

if its a Victoria, no, but you have to take off the outside beltline trim. Not familiar with a regular sedan, but you have to take out the vent window first if I remember correctly (per the shop manual)

Timmy,

No,you don't have to remove the regulator. You have to remove the screws and the lower nut from the vent window assembly and tilt it out of the way. Then, and here's the hard part, pull the little u-shaped clip halfway off the rollers so that the roller will slip off the stud they're on.It's a little hard to explain, but if you get your fingers in there and feel aound, you'll figure it out. After freeing the rollers, just lift the window up and out.I'm assuming your car is a sedan, not a Victoria.

SmileOkay Paul you are talking about a clip on the roler that goes along the door? and also I have to remove the back one also for that one does the regulator come out or stay in the door thanks

Timmy,

There are a couple of rollers on studs that are attached to the channel that the bottom of the glass fits into. These rollers are held on the studs by a U-shaped clip, that is actually similar to the clips that hold your door handle and window crank. These clips, when pulled out of the roller about 3/8 of an inch will allow the studs to be worked out of the roller. The window can then be lifted out of the door.If you pull the clip all the way out of the roller, the roller falls apart into 4 pieces, but it's easy to reassemble. The regulator stays in the door. There are two of the rollers that must be removed. They roll in channels that are welded to the door.

SmileThanks Paul for removing the back seat window the regulator stays in also?
By PWH42 - 17 Years Ago
Timmy,

Yes the regulator stays in the car just as the door regulator does.It would probably be a good idea to remove the regulators so you can clean them up and lubricate them well.

SmileSmileI got windows made but I was wondering how to start them on the tracks. I am replacing passenger windows front and back and I can't start them on the track. thanks

Hello Timmy,Did you get the glass shop to install the  metal piece that the rollers fit into? They have a special either tape or adhesive so that track stays on the glass. If not talk the glass and track back  to shop that cut your glass.Regards Mark

SmileYes he put the metal on to the glass that the roolers fit in to

So my question is when I go to slide the window in from the top of the door the tracks are in the way. How do you navigate the new glass on to the trackaaaa.

By PWH42 - 17 Years Ago
Timmy,

The track must be unbolted from the car before putting the glass into the opening. On the door, the vertical piece that holds the vent window has to be removed and replaced after the glass is in place. On a two door car,the rear glass track has to be unbolted from the car nd then the glass put in the opening. Its held in place by one and possibly two bolts. Not a real easy job,but it's doable.

SmileWhen I first put the vent window in I had to tilt the window and track just to get it in ther it was tough how would you do that once the window was in there?
By oldcarmark - 17 Years Ago
Timmy,This might help.If you leave the middle bolt on the vent window and tilt it back towards rear of car using the bolt as a pivot and tilt the front of the  door glass down they should go in together and then attach the glass to the regulator. If you pull the clip partially out of the roller the stud should go right in and then push the clip back in to hold the roller on the stud.Maybe this helps?Hope so.Regards Mark

SmileMark I did just that and I got the window in. what I did on the rollers I put the clips on them and put them on the track of the window and lined the regulator up and just pushed them on and it worked now I have to work on the back window.
