292 Heads

I already have a pair of ECZ-G heads for my 292 but checked the number of the heads that are on it and its ECZ-C, I expected them to be 5750-471

Looked on Mummerts tech info and these heads only seem to be on 56 engines ??? They have a smaller 1.78" inlet valve.

My block is B9A-E which is 59-60

I'm a bit confused ???

Steve: Yes the "C" heads were standard on most car engines in 1956. Some forum members like those heads & unless your heads or engine needs work, it might not be  really worth it to change them unless you are going to port the "G" heads & upgrade the engine etc. Ford made several different head castings over the life of the Y-Blocks, & all were interchangable from 1955 on. Most likely at a previous rebuild, the heads were exchanged without concern for the correct casting numbers. This was a common practice at one time, so many engines have the wrong heads on them.

Cheers Paul, I think i will use the ECZ-G heads as the inlet is a fair bit bigger.

If you're going to spend any money at all on the heads I would go with the Gs.  They do breathe a little better than the Cs and do alot better when port work is done.  HP went up across the board when Ford went to the new style dist., Intake manifold and G heads in 1957.

It was not the heads so much as the better cam, higher compression, better carb and vac and centrifugal advance distributor. With those changes any of the early heads ECG- A, C, D would have shown the same HP increase. AND HAVE BEEN STRONGER,TOO.

I will port & gasket match the heads as a matter of course, Still looking for pistons, There doesn't seem to be a great deal around at the moment. Pulled the C heads off last night and it look's as someone has already done some work on them already, Might of struck lucky !!!

My 56 t-bird had the B heads on the 312 cu. engine when I bought it.Bolting the G heads on made the car a little faster on either end with nothing else changed.This would be due to alittle more compresson and better air flow from the bigger intake and smaller combustion chamber.Here again the difference was enough to tell by racing friends in short sprints however small it was.If the C heads have already been worked over then you're already ahead in the money saving department and that may be the way to go because head work isn't cheap and the power difference will not be That much..
