Paul:

I used NAPA ceramic pads on my mini-van.  They told me they last a long time, and greatly reduce brake lining dust on the aluminum wheels.  They warned me that they would increase rotor wear.  Boy were they right!  I had to replace the rotors about 5000 miles later when I had it down for front wheel bearings.  The rotors were not replaced when I put the pads on, but they were worn down below the suggested minimum thickness now.  I replaced the rotors AND the ceramic pads.  Won't use them again, I'll wash the wheels more often.

Back in the '60s the gm musclecars came equipped with what they called "cerametallic" linings.  Were reputed to be less effective when cold, but when hot they didn't fade.
