I have a correct teapot carbs and intank for a 56 Thunderbird with a 312 y-block ... at present I have not install it. My distributor is 56 with the 2 vacuum lines. Can I change the vacuum advance to the 55 type or do I need to buy a 57 distributor.

Iintake number is  ecg 9424-b carbs are ecj 9510-a-b  list-1434  ecj 9510 aa list 1437  newly rebuilt tp spec ..... I have the advance vacuum for a 55 distributor ... I would have to buy the 57 distributor with the vacuum advance on it ... which is not cheap if you the right one for a thunderbird w/tac ... Greg

Please tell me the part numbers on both carburators and also the intake manifold.

Are you looking to duplicate the 56 setup exactly? As the 57 distributor is a different critter.

The part numbers are correct for a 1957 dual quad setup.

The correct  56 dual quad setup is different.

For what you have to run at its best you should acquire the 57 distributor.

The 55/56 distributor is a real dog in that setup and cant ever be made to run as good as the 57 distributor.

I assume that you know about the special valley pan necessary to clear the underside of the aluminum intake manifold?

I made a flat valley pan and welded a breather in the front. Wasn't tough at all.

I use this with my "E" code 57 dual quad manifold.

If you try to find an original it will cost you BIG BUCKS.

Not to hi-jack, but did the E-code 57's use the same distributor as lets a say a D code? Was there a difference between car and bird as well(tach drive maybe?) Thanks in advance.

 Short answer is no.

Was there a difference between car and bird as well(tach drive maybe?) Thanks in advance.

Yes. Smile

You already deduced that there are generally two different "part numbers" between the passenger cars and T Bird with the difference being the tach drive.

The "E" code, dual quad setup required different springs and distributor weights than a regular "D" code so there are two different part numbers for "E" code vehicles.

So there is both a passenger car part number and also a different T Bird part number for the distributor pertaining to the "E" setup.

The "E" code distributor has pretty much the same internal workings as the "D" code but with different advances so any "D" code distributor can be made to work in the "E" application.

The dual point supercharged distributor is an entirely different animal with again an individual part number for T Birds and passenger car applications.

I had a feeling that was going to be the answer I was going to hear. The supercharger dual point has peaked my intrest, as a friend had an e-code motor with a odd distributor he said. I'll do some searching on that one. Thanks for clearing that up.
