g'day guys

i just changed the after market oil pump on my 272 back to its original oil pump & discovered something i never thought of. if fitting a non genuine oil pump measure the depth of the female hex as it may be deeper than original mine was 1/8" deeper than original which caused the oil pump drive shaft to not be fully located in the dizzy & stripping the female hex in the dizzy which of course meant  no oil pressure which nearly cost me an engine.

I had the same thing happen on a 430 Lincoln that I built for a boat, although this was a high volume pump, fortunatly the guy installing the engine knew to shut the engine down when he saw no oil pressure and fixed the problem with a fabed drive of his own making. Engine is running fine now.

Good info Moz, what were the two measurements so we can do a comparison?

ok measurements are factory pump female hex 3/8" deep

aftermarket female hex 5/8" deep

my 1/4" measurement was taken from the wear marks on my old pump drive shaft

2/8" of the dizzy female hex is stripped, dizzy female hex is also 3/8" deep

sorry for confusion this is the first time ive had them all on the bench together to measure them
