Does anyone here know if the new repro Offenhauser cylinder heads by edelbrock will mount up with original cylinder head fasteners or are longer studs required??? for a 1947 59A flattie?

Cheers

Tim,

I am toying with the idea of fitting grade 8 bolts and chrome acorn covers to them, any idea on a ideal bolt length, I am doing the job for a friend and have not removed the old heads yet and have to travel to get to the vehicle, so I am trying to get everything needed together so if everything goes well I can fit the Offy heads and 4 barrel carb manifold in a day for him.

All helkp much appreciated, you guys always come through!!!

Dutchy,

Here is the link to Vintage Ford, they have heads, bolts, studs, nuts, acorn covers, and more. You can use the acorns on nuts as well as the bolts, I prefer studs and nuts because the treads in the blocks are not always the best.

Also when removing the old studs be Very Careful, they have probably been in there for 60 years and wont want to come out. The ones close to the exhaust ports are the worst. If you have a long way to travel, have your buddy put some penetrating oil on them a couple of days before you arrive. then when extracting them use a "little" heat around the base while turning them. DON'T get the deck RED HOT, just warm it. Too much heat will just pull the threads out.

Thanks Tim and Frank for the advice, I will take it easy on the studs, Flatties are a bit new to me, I guess I missed that era, mind you I missed the Y era also, not that its goin to stop me having a go!!! I get a lot of satisfaction learning about these old henrys, so I am lookin forward to my first experience with the 59A Flattie, good thing is my old boy is going to help as he cut his teeth on them, so we should be o.k.

thanks again,
