Need tailshaft measurment

Does anyone have a little bird on the hoist or apart to where they could give me the measurment from the top of the crossmember to the center of the tailshaft on the transmission. Thanks

Stick or auto?

I got a stick Bird up in the air but what exactly do you need.

I didnt really understand what you want measured?

I'm looking for how high the tailshaft sets above the plate on top of the x member. That should be the center line of the crank whether it is a stick or automatic. I changed my transmission and built a bolt in trans mount. I'm not sure but I think I may be lower than I should be and would like to find out how high I should be before I put the body back on the frame.  Thanks

The overall length of the new transmission, and/or the mounting pad location will affect that measurement.  I would try to maintain the original engine angle and make modifications so that the transmission and tailhousing fits as required by that angle.  But there may be things in the way which make it difficult on the bird.

Oh, or are you working with the original transmission and just made a removable mount?  If that's the case then it should be fine.

The original angle of the engine and tranmission is what I am trying to figure out and as the tailshaft is the centerline if someone can give me that height off the plate on top of the x member everything will be back to original. I could probably be = or - a bit and not be critical

Wont be around to measure till Sunday due to work demands.

Had a moment to measure.

Looks like from the top of the mount that spans the frame where the trans mount is attached to the center of the trans-NOT FROM THE TRANS MOUNT.

5" possibly 5 1/8

Thanks mic...we're getting closer. Unfortunately the member that spans the frame is what I cut out so I don't have that for a reference.  At the very center of the x member is a plate, that is what I was looking for as a reference point. Probably could use either the top or bottom of the frame at that point also. Sorry bout the confusion....In the famous words of Coolhand Luke..."what we have here is a failure to comunicate"  Thanks again

Sorry for the wait.Unfortunatly work gets in the way of playing with the T Birds.

If I could just get around this bad habit call eating I could work less and T Bird more.

anyways,

1"5/8 from the top of the plate centered over the "X" member to the center of the trans.Still a guess but damn close.

Then add another 1/8 for the thickness of the plate to the frame.

So from the top of the frame 1 3/4 to trans center and from the top of the plate 1 5/8 to the trans center.

Gotta do it today as the car is permenently leaving tomorrow!
