Just replaced my 57s oil pump & drive rod in chassis. You need 3 hands to assemble it all! Anyway, a question; while difficult to tell when working underneath the car, it appears that the drive rod only engages the distributor by possibly as little as 3/8". Is that normal? The new rod appeared to be the same length as the used one, which showed noticeable wear on the Hex.. Info appreciated, thanks.

g'day paul

3/8" is the normal length for drive shaft engagement the female hex in the dizzy & oil pump is only that deep i forgot to tell you in your last post that you need 3 hands & a good vocabulary to fit the pump it can get annoying if you dont get it all just right another trick i came up with which does make it easier to do is put the engine on tdc undo the dizzy clamp & lift the dizzy out a little its easier to fit the pump when you dont have to engage the shaft in the dizzy while fitting the pump.

Moz: I was able to get it together by holding the pump up close & reaching in with a 1/4" wrench & turning the hex a bit. When I look at the used drive rod closely I can see that 3/8" is about it. Thanks..
