one of the heads we are going to use on our rebuild has a crack at the very top of the valve guide, you can kind of see it in the pics (pics not too good, sorry) it is cracked in the narrow portion of the vavle guide, not the thicker portion where it meets the head (if that makes any sense) is this useable, repairable, ????, from what I understand these are desireable castings so I would like to use them, thanks...

Your local automotive machinist should be able to bore out that guide and install a new guide.  Very easy to do.

Do you have a "Macro" setting on your camera? Symbol is usually a little flower. That is for close shots.

I can't see it too clearly, but it looks like it has a guide insert already and that is what split the old guide. If this is so and the guide is not too loose, you may be able to run it this way. Don't try to knurl the insert though, that will split too.

Like John said, it's an easy fix for a machine shop. just install a new guide.
