OK, not looking to race my Uni. Not even really looking for a bunch more horsepower. The truck is basically a cruiser, show & shine, driver, toy (although FAR from done, lol). I DO want to run a lopey idle cam probably Mummert's Y284S. How much more will I need to do to make it a reasonably efficient engine? I may at some point put a 3x2 on it also. I presently have the cast single 4bbl and a Holley 650 with duals through car manifolds.

Get and recondition a set of G or 113 heads, the 284 cam and new lifters, port your iron 4v manifold, bore if necessary, line hone the mains if necessary, turn the crank if necessary, recondition the rods, balance, 0 the deck.  I'd do that at the minimum.  The 284 cam should be nice for your intended use.

Thanks Charley!

Greg: Can we presume the truck has a standard transmission? That cam would be annoying with an automatic.

I recommend degreeing the cam. Buy a RollMaster timing chain from Mummert or on eBay. You might want to shop for some high lift rockers, too.

Yes, presently the stock granny low 4 speed, I will be putting a T-5 in it though when the weather improves.
