Results are in on my 272.  Currently at a .030 over 272 3.65" and looking to go to a 312 3.8".  Machince shop prefers at least .125" after bore and is pushing me towards just doing a 292 3.75".  They were most concerned with the passenger side at .184" and the concern of hitting a water pocket.  Attached is the sheet below for veiwing and recomendations.  Truck will not be a racer but don't not looking at having to pamper it either just becuase its a 312.  Thanks Bing

Bing,

Looks like #2 is the thinnest, but the others on the pass. side could work if the boring bar was pushed a little to the front and inside.

If you are looking at 1 or 2 cylinders that are thin consider sleeving those cylinders. Cost Vs benefit analysis. With a 3.8 bore you are pretty much at an end with this block, maybe you might want to find a 292 block.

Or you could also just not bore it as much...

You did say it wasn't going to be an all out racer?

IMHO there's nothing wrong about 292 CI. I think pistons are cheaper and easier to find as well.

But I'll leave it up to the experts.
