Here is a students's 292 we are mounting on the test stand and hope to fire it this or next week. It was supposedly a running engine when brought in (well, they all ran at one time, didnt they  ) that he ground the valves and put a gasket kit in it - we'll see what kind of shape its in when and if it fires. He's excited to get it going, it hope it takes off for him, but if it doesnt it will present some good learning oppourtunities. As with any project the kids take on, patience is the hardest thing to come by...RetroJim - We are in the process of getting your mounts built, it'll be alittle while if your not in a huge hurry??? I was going to mention the bell housing also but I assume they would have to put the bell on to mount the starter. I would also like to see a cover over the battery... we had one blow up trying to start an engine in Auto Shop Class ~40 years ago, and yes it was a 292" Y-Block.
We had a bunch of Y's and Flatties to learn on. Must have been donated by Ford?? And they where all painted orange for some reason.

Make sure you bleed all the air out of the cooling system, I notice your radiator is below the engine and water outlet.

We do have the bellhousing bolted up, the pics were taken "in process". I do plan to use a battery box as well in addition to cleaning up alot of the wiring, as this is a "universal" stand there are alot of "variables" to contend with, I am trying to make it as easy as possible to test different brands of engines - I'll probably also add a fire extinquisher to it somewhere, I also am going to build an expanded metal guard in front of the radiator and probably a solid one on the back. Great point about purging the air from the system, I never considered that. What steps would I take to do that??? thanks-

Gee I guess I thought they were going to pull start the thing. Completely forgot about the starter mount location. Make a sound video when it runs! The kids all lub UTube. Chuck in NH
