Anyone have any sources spindle kits to change over to disc brakes. I know there used be sources out there that would convert Granada spindles so that they would fit without any problems. Rexburg, Id

Granada spindles will fit but you have to get a taper drill and change the size of the lower ball joint hole.

If you use Lincoln Versailles disks the whole thing just bolts up with no modifications. Chuck in NH

I bought the setup for my 56 Club Sedan from http://www.dropnstop.com Dick Smith owned it then but has passed away in the last year. It does appear to still be a valid business so you might want to check with them. It was a total bolt on conversion, I did not buy their master cylinder, used one from a Lincoln Town car.

www.jamcosuspension.com has a direct bolt -on kit with no modifications for 54-56 fords & mercurys. It is on ebay for $599 which sounds pretty good........... Thinking about it myself               Mike

Checked it out on their site& it is $549--so much for getting it cheaper on Ebay

Flathead Jr,

Chuck is right, I used 77 Granada spindles and only mod was reaming the taper (7 deg.) for lower ball joint. Reaming cost me $20.00 at a local machine shop. The rest was a bolt in affair. I purchased all other parts new, over the counter, from Napa (rotors, calipers, pads amster (master) cylinder, etc.). Total cost was less that $275.00, and that's Canadian!! Wink FYI, the Lincoln and Merc Monarch are the same from 75 to 81 I believe. Hope this helps. BigGrin

Thats ok Rob, I will cover for you! You have enough to worry about being Canadien!

Oh Rob, would it make you sad if I told you I had the 54 Sunliner out this weekend? If it would, I won't tell you then.

Very Funny Jim!!!! Tongue I may not have the car out, it is tucked away in my heated garage, but I am getting my "need for speed"  on my makeshift "Bobsled Run" down my front hill! It is a 250' winding run of shear ice! Hmmmmm, maybe I can attach a Y-Block to the boogie board,................just a thought!!!!  w00t

I just did this on my 56 customline. I will say this, you can save a good deal of money if you can find a donor, such as a 75-80 granada. I didnt have such a luxury, so I bought a set from ebay. Took them to numerous machine shops, NOONE knew how to taper them like I needed. By the way, I thought it was a 6 degree reamer, but wouldnt argue either way.

After all that and weeks of downtime, I contacted dropnstop. Dick did pass, and the new guy that took over is named Dave. He is a really good guy, I talked to him on the phone about 10 times with questions, very helpful. I worked a deal and sent him my untapered spindles for a set that were tapererd correctly and paid the difference. I had all the other parts, so I didnt order the kit. The spindles are expensive all ready to go, but it turned out to be such a hassle for me, it was well worth it. Funny thing, about 2 months later a granada showed up at the local pull it yourself yard. I went down there and grabbed those babies, never know when you may need them.

In short, I would contact dropnstop in a heartbeat, nothing but good things to say about them, and if you do a little searching on them, you will hear others that feel the same. You always hear of the bad things about companies, so I thought I would share a good one.

The rest of the parts you can get locally, master, calipers, pads, etc...

Jim,

I believe it was Dick Cohen that owned DC Enterprises (Drop'em and Stop'em) now called DG Enterprises. Used to talk to him all the time at Long Beach Swap Meet. I'll miss him. If the new guy is half as nice as Dick was than you can't go wrong getting their stuff

And that's Dick's '54 Sedan Delivery still on the web site.

Really?? Price on web site is $650.00 for Complete kit? Maybe the Complete kit isn't complete?? At the time I bought mine it wasn't that high...

$1045 sounds like with power booster and dual master.

These guys advertise a conversion using your existing spindles.  I do NOT want to lower my 56 2 - 2 1/2".
