I went to a salvage yard and found 4.

2 with 113 heads, 1 C2AE with a 4spd truck bell and tranny - maybe forged crank, and one that is probably 239 or 256 - has core plugs in the heads and dual exhaust manifolds.  I'm thinking I'm going to get them all.  Don't know where I'll put them, though.  There were two trucks that had the engines pulled but the bellhousings were there - both 4spd.  I might get them, too.

I think I'm officially addicted.

Nice find Charlie, I came up with four sets of heads and four blocks myself last month. All in trade! It's nice to have something someone wants when they have something you want. BigGrin

Bill,

I actually have a lead I need to follow up on in Conyers, about 35 miles from me. I also know of a guy in Lavonia, GA who inherited a salvage yard and has Y-block just laying out in the open. I don't think much is going to come of that one, though. He's one of those "well, what you want to offer" guys who won't let me see them up close first. He also has 4 or 5 cars that I saw with the engines still in them. Mostly '56 and earlier. You have to buy the whole car, though.

Glad somebody is saving these old motors from the crusher. I wish there were more left up here in Alberta. I'd love to be able to take my time and build one while still being able to drive my truck.BigGrin

There's a lot of stuff I see at salvage yards that I want to get. They had some big diesel engines. There was one GM V6 which was huge. Must have been a diesel and it had a blower on top! I'd like to get something like that to build a hot rod. Probably not much horsepower but with all that torque, who cares!

There is a guy that I see at El Mirage that runs a 4-71 Detroit in a Toyota pickup. I think he runs in the 170 mph range. If you watched the Bonneville program on the Discovery Ch. he can be seen in the background a couple of times, it's an orange and white (I think those are the colors, orange for sure) it has been split and elongated with the engine behind the cab. Very interesting.

Hey Charlie, if you run up on more stuff than you can handle over there in GA, give me a call. It ain't too far over to your place, might make for a good weekend trip this spring. Got your check today, thanks.

I picked up all 4 today.  I also got the transmissions.  1 4spd out of an F500, 1 truck 3 spd, 1 car 3 spd, and 1 auto.  I want to go back for 1 more auto and 2 4spds.  I hope to start tearing down the engines next week.

What year is the car 3 speed? I actually need some measurements of a '56 3 speed to I can "adjust" the T-89 before I pull my 3 speed out. Like input shaft length, over all length etc .. I hate to wait until I pull mine out and then start measuring things.

I will guess the car was a 58 or 59, based on the engine.

Here they are!

If you're interested in selling the bellhousing on the left engine, I'd like to know.

Charlie,

is that your 914?  Haven't seen one of those in years. My soccer coach used to have one, when I was 13, and he would take the guys on wild rides in it. I think that could have been the beginning of my interest in sports cars, although I went British.

That is not mine. But the 914 is on my list of cars to have. That belongs to my friend, Rick. The motors are at his house. He has 5 or 6 914s. One is a 6 cyl. They are fun to drive and can be made pretty quick.

6 cyl one should be a 916, correct?

I think his is a 914-6.  Some have 916 emblems.  I don't know if it's something they changed during some year or maybe they are slightly different cars or what.  His is 914-6 VW Porsche - because it was a joint venture between Volkswagen and Porsche.  Oh, you know, I think the 916 has fender flares and different airdams and such but is the same platform.

We're putting a Subaru motor in one of the 4 cyl cars.  About 150hp.  That will be fun!
