Here is a pic of the one of the valve covers with the decals that Ron provided, Thanks Ron!! It didnt get it on quite like I wanted to (my layout was off some) but its going to work.

Dan: It looks like that cover has been seriously overtightened. They should not be dished next to the mounting holes, only depressed where the grommets go. If they are flat end to end so the gasket will seal, then maybe they will work OK.

never messing with a yblock before I didnt know that, now that you mention it and I look at the picture its painfully obvious, isnt it - I'll see what the mounting flanges look like but I think I need to find a set of covers in better shape, thanks-

They can be straightend. Set them face down on a hard surface (probably with a towel underneath to protect your paint and gasket). Use a large face hammer and drive down the area at the hole. They will often come out nearly level. I usually "correct" any metal valve covers before replacing. Also a good Idea around pan and valley cover bolt holes. They get pulled down over time and don't correctly tighten. Hope this helps. Chuck in NH

Got the dents pushed out some but left a couple hammer marks, look kinda bad but will do for the time being... Had my local sign guy make a couple more of these decals based on the ones Ron gave me. If anyone would like them I will send them to you, I would ask that those folks who have so generously donated to this project have first dibs but if they dont want them I will send them to whoever wants them - I only have one pair. Thanks-

Dan,
Why don't you have more made and have a 'FUND RAISER' for your project (if your school would allow that, don't want to get you in trouble).

Not a bad idea, I did get the originals from Ron for free and I dont want to profit off his genorosity and I have also received tons of free help from members here and dont wish to profit off their genorosity either - I am however looking for ideas for fundraisers for the shop and your idea is a good one, thanks-

when all else fail, you can try to get someone to scan the logo 1:1 on a computer, print it out and make stencils, and airbrush/kylon away

I'm in the decal business and could probably get some made if the original designer was in agreement. I don't know if Ron had these made or not. If someone has the artwork EMAIL it to me and I'll work up pricing. The problem is that I have to do a couple hundred to make it worth while. Chuck in NH

I had them made at a local sticker shop because i couldnt get a good result with the water transfer, which is all i could find. Id be happy to see about getting some more run and the price (probably have to do a sheet of 10), BUT I have no idea if there any copyright issues, etc? Pretty sure I couldnt make enough money at it to be worth a legal hassle!!

I dunno. People tend to buy stuff that works over stuff that don't. Of course, if that was true then we wouldn't be getting all this Chinese junk. I guess it's a paradox?

The stickers I have done are the same quality as the Y-Block shootout stickers I bring each year. They have great UV resistance etc. I too would want to make sure the design was available for legal use and would need to contact the artist to make sure. We could create our own version of it though. There was discussion about doing the Y-Blocks forever logo for valve covers but I would need Jim's and Jerry's permission plus sufficient orders to justify making them. Chuck in NH

Hello Chuck. This is the type of item that I think would sell well.I have found the same thing as everyone else-the water transfer ones aren't worth a dime.If the decal style were available and legal I think they would sell well here and on places like Epay for instance. Will be watching to see what happens with this idea!

The stock like ones that are on EBAY right now are stick on not water slide. They should be ok. Guy that sells them seems ok but you never know. I like the design in the picture on this forum but are they a "stock" design or someones rendition? If so who's design is it? Chuck

I got some from Concours auto parts about 8 years ago and they still look good after about 10,000 miles.

Thats another good point. If good decals are available would it be worth making a different design? Chuck in NH

THese are based on the water slide ones that were used as a template, with a few very minor, very subtle adjustments.

I got these from Mid Fifties Truck parts $10.00or so. The seem to be holding up well after 6 months. They are adheasive backed not water type transfer type. I think they may have also had Thunderbird and Thunderbird Special.
