I'm in the process of my T5 tail swap and hit a snag.  I need to relocate the speedo gear down the shaft but the shaft is a smaller size.  There is a tension type clip that fits into a hole in the shaft.  I can drill a new hole but am afraid the clip will not be enought to hole the gear in place.  Anybody have a solution for me?  Thanks Bing

Bing:

My thought is that the speedo gear takes very, very little torque to drive the speedo, so almost anything to hold it in place will probably work.

John, I would have agree with you but hate to be wrong down the road and have to take it apart.  I put the gear in the tail last night and when I turned the shaft it didn't turn.  Assume it was not lined up 100% but still thought it would seat itself and turn.  Could be wrong.

CEREAL KILLER  the location of the gear in the picture is where it needs to be and you can see where it currently is located but the lager smooth part of the shaft.  You are also correct they have different out put shaft for different tails.  Mine is a Ford shaft and I am using a S10 tail for better shifter location.  Sure I could replace the output shaft but that is more than my abilities will allow.
