Nice article, haven't had time to read all of it yet, but I was looking a the pictures and one states that the Main cap torque is 145 ft. lb. on a 292... sounds a little on the high side. My book says 95-105.

I agree with you, I torqued mine to the 100 ft lbs using studs thinking that the fine thread gives me more but 145 seems excessive. I know games were played with the torque with the 312's but I don't know about the 292's.

Vic, do you happen to know when this article was written as it mentions that neoprene rear main seals are not available for 312's, which is no longer the case?

Hey Vic, First, a big hello from Charlie and Corene. We enjoyed the visit with you in Columbus and wondered how you and the T-Bird were doing. Second, thanks for the link to the Y-Block build. I read it all and enjoyed it very much. Nice to see national magazines giving credit and recommending the Y. We have great aftermarket suppliers now, but with more interest in the Y-Block, the aftermarket offerings might expand and become more reasonable, especially 312 bearings and true roller timing chains. Hope to hear more from you.............

Another great article (or rather articles) on Y rebuilding was in Street Rodder magazine starting in February 1999 and running to December 1999 (with an exception of August). Especially interesting one I though was the head work detailing vlave seats.
Another article that was interesting was one in Street Rodder on the newer type rope seal. Don't know the issue as the pages I have do not have that info.

I don.t know when it was written I was just surfing and found this site that had that article and other Y-block articles. Yeh, the "Interceptor" Y-Block, used in boats. Looks really neat in roadsters. Same carbs they used on Spyder Corvairs (Turbocharged). Thanks for the link.

Nice article! If anyone has seen the video I posted of the "Chris-Craft" engine running, the guy I built that for has been restoring old wooden boats for years. He once had a 17' "Century" with a 272 Intercepter, he told me for the day that was the #1 competition ski boat. Loads of power and could turn on a dime.
