I'm tempted to buy yet another 312, this one a 57. I already have three 312 blocks but only one crank. What I really want are 292 blocks.

Greg, in 20 years living in Idaho, I've never been north of Koskia. Pretty country up there. Some day I'll have to drive one of my projects up your way.

Besides originality (which is a biggie, of course), is there any advantages of the 292 over the 312?

Sorry to ask a dumb question but I'm still a newbie here...Smile

The advantage of 292's are 292 crankshafts. 312 crankshafts seem to go for a premium. 292 blocks can be bored to 312 sizes. In high performance applications, 292 bottom ends, especially the main bearing caps, are stronger.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know about the bottom end strength.

Here's another question. With McTim64's 341 CID Y-block, what engine did he start with? I know he bored & stroked to get to the 341 CID displacement...

Thanks!

Also, 312s are indistinguishable from 292s from the outside.

I have a 292 block I'd give someone but they have to come and get it.
