Would someone post some pictures of an engine stand you have built? I'm looking to build a stand to run a y-block. What size angle iron did you use? Thanks

I've just seen McTim's engine stand on You Tube. So you might check with him. Looks pretty straight forward.

Dennis:

How about using materials related to your trade, like some 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch black pipe, various elbows, tees, and unions, etc. and making up a stand with maybe some flat plates welded in place for block and transmission (if used) mounts.  In my mind, I see a couple of rectangular frames, one at ground level, the other elevated a foot or so with four "corner" posts.  Just my 2 cents.  Say "HI" to Cindy for me.

John, I think it would be easier to build and weld angle iron than pipe. I'd bet the fittings would be costly too.

A pair of stands from Stumpy's Fabworks will be a good place to start.

Dennis,

I made up an engine cradle with some scrap 2 x 2 square box and some 2 inch angle iron . Not bad for an amature, even if I say so myself ?? Only took about 2 hrs one rainy Saturday afternoon .For some reason I can't load the photos ???

Here’s a couple of pics of a run in stand that uses a bellhousing to support the engine.  It’s shown with a FE engine but a simple bellhousing change allows other engines to be simply bolted up.  The water simply hooks up to a hydrant by way of the water pump openings and the temperature is regulated simply by the water flow into and out of the engine by way of a hose coming out of the intake manifold.  Fuel and battery hook up at the rear and exhaust headers install backackards to allow the exhaust to exit at the front of the engine rather than by the fuel and battery.  Looked for a picture with everything in place in a ready to run condition but didn’t find one handy.

Thanks guys, I was thinking more along the line of John's thinking. Two frames a foot apart or so. I guess it could be simpler.
