Finally bit the bullet and pulled the motor out of the Hot Rod.  The noise was getting too scary to drive it any more.  It started about 4 months ago and just got worse by the day.  Got to the stage where I was convinced it was going to throw a rod or two out the side of the motor.  First I thought it was oil pressure, then I thought it was a bearing, then something else ?????  Finally I must have broken the crank in two???

After sitting the motor & FOM on the ground and splitting the pair, I found that the " ears "on the flexplate are not there ? They were all snapped off & sitting in the bottom of the bell housing??  (I checked them about 2 mths ago).  I'm not sure what year FOM it is?  It has 4 bolts holding it to the flex plate.  Ring gear is bolted to convertor.  The other convertor/ flexplate I have,  has 6 bolts & is air cooled.  I have another 272 + 040 being built by Jeff Cooper to go back in. Two rebuilt Y Blocks in one year?  I can't see me making it to Columbus 07??? Regards Lon

That 4 ear flexplate was always a weak spot. Try to get the full circle one with the starter ring on it. You'll need the later torque convertor too! It would be a sad thing if you had to skip your trip but thats what fun with cars is all about I guess.Hehe Chuck
