The early Pertronix "Ignitor" can only handle a set-up that is 1.5 OHMS or more. That is - the coil primary resistance plus the ballast resistor (if you are using one). Otherwise the decreased resistance allows too many AMPS to flow and eats the power transistor they use to ground their system (instead of the points). I know of people who have gotten away with a total of 1.3 OHMS - but none less than that.The second generation version "Ignitor II" has a more robust set of components - but I don't know the minimum OHMS for that one.
