Won't fit passenger car unless you do away with the crossmember that supports the engine.

Well,
You wouldn't necessarily have to do away with it but you would have to rather severely modify it to get everything to fit.
I'm going to put the following mess (below) in my 55 Ford truck using the side mount on the block due to the way the transmission mounts (no bell-housing mounts)
So I'll have to build the mount so the exhaust down-pipes will fit too.....Of course the operative word here is "truck" I have a LOT more room to place mounts than you might in a car.
Cheers,
Rick

You could do a kinda tubular mount that will allow the pipe and flange to fit in between. Might look something like this quick ms paint drawing.

What trans. is that?

It's an E4OD (originally) out of a 94 F450 Super Duty with a 7.3L N/A diesel.
I had the trans rebuilt with a case for a 300 L6/302 V-8 using most of the internals from the diesel trans and the parking brake assy. It's bolted to a Bentsen adapter kit.

It's all going in my 55 F-600.
