I have one with the same specs in my 239 in a 54 f 100, I like it.

This is the same camshaft I have in my '55 Customline with a 272, T-85 overdrive, and 3.56 rear gears.  I've got over a 100K miles on the camshaft now with no problems and fuel mileage has been good.  This cam has a nice rumble without the heavy lope and is very drivable.  I would recommend degreeing it in though and insuring it has at least 4° camshaft advance when installing it.

I don't know what the engine Gurus on site think ??, But the spring pressures 46Y found, sound awfully high to me, compared with say those listed in J.Mummerts Y-block ads in YBM. And  also compared to the pressures listed by Schumann Sales for Police spring kits. ??

Paul:

I agree with you on this.  Those dual springs are not only stronger than need be, but the guides would have to be machined so the inner spring would even go on.  I am running springs that are 93# on the seat and about 250# open, with a much more aggressive cam than the Isky 260.  More aggressive cams require more spring pressure because they tend to "throw" the lifter off the top of the lobe, also they usually mean the engine is run at a higher rpm.  I have had my engine to 6500 many times with these springs without valve float.  The stronger the spring, the higher the rate of cam and lifter wear.

Hey Mike, this is a bit off topic, but you have a neat new neighbor there in Grants Pass.  None other than the publisher of Legendary Ford Magazine!  Colin and Dianne got out of SoCal and moved there a few months ago.  You should look them up as you will just not find a nicer guy (and gal).
