What carb? 390CFM,450CFM,600CFM.. AND PERTRONIX QNA TOO

I'm soo confused on what I should do, I have two carbs right now

I was told #1 is a 600CFM and #2 is a 450CFM. How much are these worth?

Also, would I be better off with a 390CFM for a daily driver? It's going to be used at least 3 times a weak, it's in FL so, rarely cold weather. I want to get some good MPGs but this is going on a .30 over 292 with rebuilt heads (57' heads) and Mummert's Clay Smith grind Y-265S cam.

I'm 99% I have a rebuild kit for one of the Holley's too.



Again, I'm wanting some good gas milage so, with that said, I just rebuilt my points distibutor..Was this useless? Should I go with a Pertronix kit or something? Thanks

Since you have it, start out with the 450 carb. 600 will probably be too much.

The stock distributor should be fine so long as it's 57 or newer. You can fine tune the advance curve.

And, should you choose, you can install duraspark components and probably find everything you need at the local salvage yard.

Charlie pretty much nailed it.

I have a 272 Ford O and am running a 450CFM on a B intake and couldn't be happier. I've leaned the primarys one or two steps. The car starts instantly and throttle response is crisp. I converted it to a manual choke and never really need to use it (Savannah, GA).

I use a out of the box 600 cfm Holley on my bone stock 57 Tbird automatic. Works perfect. Original application for the carb was for a low emissions van, sorry I do not have the list # and the car is in storage. Many years ago I had a 57 Bird S/OD that I put a 600 cfm off my 61 390/375 Starliner. It was like I had increased the size of the engine 50%. That bird would 92+ MPH in the quarter. My present Bird is strictly a weekend cruiser. A properly calibrated 600 cfm is not too large for a stock 292/312.

A 450 may squeeze annother mpg or so but its all in what you want.

Great, I think teh 450 is what i'm gonna stick with than..how hard is it to rebuild a carb?
