The bushings fit all but wagons and HD applications.  The brackets fit both.  The curved points are '57-up, the straights fit '49-56 for the most part.  6s and V8s in some cases use the same ones, some 6s use the opposite "hand".  The dual point applications, both '57 dual four and blown, and most aftermarket dual point plates, use one right and one left hand sets.

As far as the points go, sounds like you have a collection that’s throwed together.  Some of the straight points may be for a dual point distributor while others could be for a six cylinder application.
