I recently changed plugs, the ones I took out were Champion rf14yc, the replacements came from Dennis Carpenter and they are rf11yc, I have a 55 Ford Fairlane V8 272 Fordomatic.

Does the numbers matter ? , physcially they look identical.

Y blocks used a F14Y. Big blocks such as the 352 used the F11Y. They are different heat ranges. I find F14y plugs on eBay quite often. They also fit a Cushman engine and quite small engine shops have some left.

Based on the numbering system used by Champion, the RF11YC sparkplugs are a colder rated plug than the RF14YC’s.  Looking at a Champion application list for the RF11YC, there are not any Y’s listed for that particular application but there are a variety of Ford six cylinders as well as 289, 302, 352, 390, and 428 V8s listed.  But unless you do a lot of idling or short hops, installing and using the colder spark is expected to be a non-event in a Y that’s in good condition and in a good state of tune.
