....hello friends, i had a little problem, my distr. cap is broken, i had a old mallory distr. but there is no number on it, the cap number is #4004, it´s a doubble contact, i show you some pictures from the item.

On the mallory side i dont fond the cap.

1. how knows where i can buy this cap????

2. can i take a other cap for my old distr.????

Andy:

That cap is unique to Mallory, I don't think a regular cap will fit.  As I remember, the part shown in the picture is sort of clamp to hold the wires in the lower part of the cap.  I don't know if Mallory still makes them or not.

The cap shown is an old (really old) cap. The only place to get a replacement may be something like ebay. You might google "Mallory Cap" to see if there are any dealers that may have another.

As far as a replacement distributor, any YBlock distributor 55 and later will fit, but the 57 and later ones are the better units. Stay away from the big truck units as they may have a governor on them??

Rebuilds are available here for less than 100US$. If you have any one to contact here they can get you one.

Hi, years back there was a replacement one piece dizzy cap to replace the old 2 piece mallory cap, i think it was ECHLIN brand P/No MA5 and rotor was MA7. However i dont know if they would be still available these days bu its a chance. Best regards aussiebill.

I had a Mallory dual point dist. in an old 63 Ford. It was an  FE motor 427, but the cap looked similar to that one. It might be the same cap. Just something else you can check.

I think all the Mallory caps of each style are the same, regardless of application.

Andy

Is this what you are looking for?

If the picture didn't load, try going to:

http://web.mac.com/northcoastrnc/iWeb/North%20Coast%20RnC/Flatheads%20Forever%20....html

It may be for a flathead but it might work...

The early mallory distributors with 2 piece cap had very wide lugs and mounting clips, some had long thin ones with tighten down screws to secure clips and  all the later ones had narrow snap on clips. regards Aussiebill.

There is one on ebay, but quite expensive.

As much as I enjoy nostalgic stuff there comes a point when price overshadows practicality so IMHO I would go with a '57 up distributor and Pertronix

Andy, you need to change your link from [url[b]=http://www.macsautoparts.com/photos/gallery_page.asp?id=90] to

http://www.macsautoparts.com/photos/gallery_page.asp?id=90 so it works and shows your beautiful truck on MACs Auto site.

Best Wishes from the Shake and Bake Capitol of the World (In case you haven't heard we had a 4.7 "shaker last night").

...he rod, dosn´t work, downt no why??? Must i change in "your profil---edit signature" ???
By Teros292 - 16 Years Ago
Andy,

Some how the "insert hyperlink" makes it wrong. You have to correct it yourself. For example , you have to take the "=" away and move "]" marker which is right after link to before link right after url and then make between it link space. Make a space also after link before "[" marker. Thats how it works with me.

...ok, hope links will be worked now. A.

The 1281 would be the one to use if you have the 57 and up distributor. The 57 has all the springs under the points plate, 55 and 56 there is a spring on the top of the points plate.
