what do you think about cam regrinds vs new cam?

what do you guys think about regrinds? or are new cams better? i hear many good things on regrinds...

I don't have a very good opinion on regrinds. I prefer new.

Go with a new cam from a reliable company with new lifters. For a few bucks more, it's not worth the risk in my opinon.

My vote is always for new camshafts and lifters when available.  Both of these are available for Y-Blocks so regrinds should not have to be an option.  But be wary of the new off-shore manufactured lifters or parts that do not come from a reputable source.

When using reground cams and lifters you are grinding away part of the hardend surface which can be a big problem like that song Wipe Out. By the time you try having them rehardend you are ALOT better off going with NEW!!!! My vote is with Ted and the other guys.

Speedpro56 beat me to it.  Surface hardening after grinding is real important, and it needs to be done right.  New cam companies harden on a production basis, odds are they will all be good.  With re-grinds, you are shakin' dice.  It is impossible to tell if a cam is hardened by looking at it.

I am with the rest, I would buy a new cam from a reputable company.
