I hear ya. They've tried the New Ebay a couple times the last year or 2 but looks like this time it's here to stay. If it's not broke, don't fix it!!!

It seems to be extra slow for us dialup guy's as well. Angry

I've been using ebay motors for some time now. I did notice it changed. I must admit that I haven't a clue what you guys are talking about. I've had no problems at all.

The dial up part, I can understand, but as technologies advance, web content will get heavier and heavier. Basic DSL doesn't cost much more than dial up, which, in computer terms, is now prehistoric. For home use, which I assume is where you guys use your internet, dial up will save a few bucks a month.

For business use, the savings of dial up is not worth the lost efficiency. I finally convinced an older friend and business owner to switch to DSL. He was reluctant, didn't think it was a good idea... until it is now taking him 5 minutes to do something which had taken 30 minutes in the past. Multiply this by the number of things you have to do with the computer each day, and you can see how the "extra" time gained can now be used to turn out a product and make more money, negating the, what, $10.00 "saved" per month for dial up. When you figure in average shop rates, that 25 minutes, in my friends case, paid the additional cost. With a 5 day work week, that works out to over 8 hours additional work done, and money made per month, in the same amount of time. That would be more than $640 per month for many of the shops around here. Or more than $7500 a year. And that is only if you gain 25 minutes a day. That's a pretty nice chunk of change, especially in times like these. I know DSL does not cost near that much.

Hmm. Maybe I should talk to my friend about a bonus, or something.

Oh, and DSL does not tie up the phone - another essential thing in business. An unanswered call is lost money.

Maybe that's not the case for everyone. But the times are changing and they will continue to change.

Charlie,

All of what you say is true, but there is one caveat to be added.DSL is unavailable for a lot of places.I finally bit the bullet a couple of months ago and went to a broadband aircard. It saves a lot of time, but I'm not sure it's worth $70 a month for the average home user.

That is absolutely true. In some areas, there is no dsl available and dial up is the best choice. I know I wouldn't pay for wireless broadband for home use. It's slower than most basic DSL, at least 3 times more expensive, and still not available in remote areas. If your cell phone has no signal, wireless broadband probably doesn't as well - unless the technology has changed since I last used it. The wireless broadband I have used seemed barely faster than dial up.

I use ebay (I don't go to ebay motors specifically), just put in what I am searching for in the first search box that comes up. No problems.

Thats the only way to use it put in what you are looking for and use the all catagories search and no problems at all. I have been using the Bay for a long time and never had an issue.

Charlie, my using dialup is definately not an attempt at saving a few $$. The problem is that I live on an acreage on the outskirts of the city and dialup is the only option they offer out here. We have no cable, so can't get high speed cable either. Looks like my only option is some sort of wireless card they're offering but they are expensive, especially if you go over the amount of gigs they allow per month. Nevertheless, I have to say after 2 years of dialup, I'm ready to pay the extra $$ and finally be able to youtube lol. BigGrin

you can get a satellite dish for dish network or direct tv and then get their internet service. costs about $50 more a month. Or you can get the wireless card fom all the big phone companies and get internet anyplace. That the last time I checked on it was 49.99 month But AT&T ,and Alltell are giving it free when you get service with them. Hughes has a satellite dish for internet only but its 99 a month.
