Hi fellow Y block nuts.  Just installed a new sending unit and gauge in my bird and the gauge only comes up to just below the 1/2 full mark.  The tank is filled to the top.  Is it possible the tank is too full?  Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Too full won't happen, when the float hits the top it thinks its full, got one more inch to go, gotta adjust the arm till it registers a half at half.

Welcome to the site, Lotsafords!  Here is a link pertaining to your fuel and temp gauge adjustments:

It shows pictures and I hope this answers your concerns.

I have a similar problem on my T-bird (57 w 312)  DO you think the same adjustments can be made on it?  Both temp & fuel.

I'm not sure because I don't have a T-Bird, but if you don't get an answer here, go to squarebirds.org and ask there.  They know all about Bird gauges.

Hope this helps.  - Dave

Thanks for all the input.  Part of my problem was a bad ground.  With that corrected the gauge now goes full scale.  According to CASCO that too is a ground issue or possibly the yellow wire from the sending unit shorted.  I would think that if it were shorted you wouldn't get a reading at all but who am I to question.  Will put the car on the lift in the morning and try to trace the yellow wire.

Will post the results.

Lotsafords:

You don't need a lift to check the yellow wire.  It is under the trunk mat, goes to the left side of the car and joins the tail light wiring harness where it proceeds to the gauge.
