I have a Granada disc. brake  set up ,   When i place the rim  onto the rotor , it hits the caliper ...I have heard a thinner caliper along with a spacer is needed ........!!   or do i need to start ookin for another set of rims......Or do i need to have rims made , and if so what off set ?  I would likt  some  info  as to what is the best way to go .......Thanks in advance..............Sam................West central   Florida

I have a set on a 57 custom but the rims are 15's. I will try an orginal 14" rim this weekend and see how it fits and will let you know.

I have Granada disks on my '55 Customline.  My stock wheels fit very well with no spacer.  You didn't mention your rim size.

'55 Mainline and Customline came stock with 15" rims.  My buddy's '55 Fairlane came stock with 16" rims.  I tried my 15x7" Cragar SS (3" back spacing) wheels and they fit as well.

When I bought the new 11" rotors, I had the center bearing hub lathed to the diameter of the stock wheel centers, (but that has nothing to do with why your calipers hit your wheels).

Almost any of the 70's up Ford or Mopar rims will work. They have to have the deep rear offset for disc brakes. The older rims have a step in the backside of the wheel, the later ones are more cone shaped to provide that clearance. You can probably pick up a set of spacers at your local speed/hot rod shop but I think I would prefer to find the right wheels.

If your local boneyards don't have them there are several manufacturers like Stockton wheels that can help you out. Bit pricey but they are new. Chuck in NH

I agree with Cereal.  Most guys really have a hard time getting modern tires and wheels between the quarter panel opening and over the rear drum.  They are fat and tend to scrape with no spacer.

Using front spacers on my Mustang aftermarket wheels, I lug the wheel loosely, stick my fingers between the mag spokes, and center the spacer while I tightened the nuts.  (It's kinda like standing on your head while drinking a glass of water.)  Using OEM stamped wheels, you can't access to center a spacer.

How did you get 14" rims, when your car came with 15's?  I've been looking for a deal on 16" rims for mine (like the Fairlanes came with).

To ..Glen , Dave, chuck, and Cereal Killer,     Thanks for all the info ............I have only tried one rim ,   15 in.  i had  off a 55 ford .......I reamed the center to fit ,  but wont clear the rotor !!   I eill try one  off the 56 vic,  also have 15 in rims on the 47  that   has disc. ,  had the car so long dont remember what rims i used .........I worked on it last night ,  will prob. be workin on it tonight ..........Thanks again......Sam

...Are you sure you have Granada brakes, I've seen some "kits" use chev 12" rotors and calipers.

Yeah, something is real fishy.  I sent Sam a PM with my retrofit instructions.  He must be using something totally different.

Sam, don't ream the wheels, they should remain stock.  If you need to tool a little stock off the hub nose (per the instructions I sent), my local guy charged me $15/ea for his lathe time.

Cereal Killer ,    the rotors are 11 inches across ,  ford 5 bolt pattern ...the bracket that holds the brake disc , 6 3/4  inches  long......I think Chuck  maybe right ,  need to use ,  ford rims from the 70, s ......but need  15 inch...I also think  maybe the rim i used is from an earlier  ford  ,  i was told it was off a 55 , but who knows......it does have the right bolt pattern.....................Dave i read your  detailed instruction sheet ,,,   lots  of info ,   but mostly for  mustange ,, but a lot that applies to  55, 56 fords ,   so thanks again .....as soon as i get some ink  in the printer , will make a copy of the info .....thanks again  !!  was t able to work on it tonight ,  but i hope  in the morning.............Sam................West Central  Florida

Sam, I can be thick at times, but isn't your car a '56 Ford?  If so, it is exactly the same as my '55... the one with Granada 11" disk brakes and stock 15" X 5" wheels.  I followed those instructions and everything works just fine.  Yours should be too, if you have the same parts.

Gerry , first thing is to get the rotors machined,  so the center of the rotor will fit into the rim,   and tha t will include the spare tire .....good thing you reminded me  !!!!!!!!!!!!!11...........Sam        west central  Florida
