I have a 1958 f100 292 that when I start it up I have to keep my foot on the pedal for a few minutes or it stalls out.  If I pull the choke out it just makes it do this for a longer period of time, is there a solution to this problem?  Is the choke hooked up wrong?  I am thinking of putting in a electric choke next month and at that point will give the carb a good once over, any tips on fixing this at that point?  I am new to the forum, well I have been reading all of the threads for a month or two now so I am new to posting with you all.

Thanks for the help.

What carb?  Is the fast idle cam on the carb hooked up to work in conjuction with the choke?  May just need the fast idle screw on the right side of the carb adjusted so that the fast idle is working when the choke is activated.

I think it is a holley 2300 because this is what I believe came with the trucks but will look when I have some down time at work tonight.  As far as the high idle I will take a look at that as well, I have not worked on this carb at all so not sure if I even know which one is the high idle but I will figure it out.

Ted, it is a holley 2300 and the fast idle screw was the problem and it started up nice and strong this morning.  Now when I was driving home from work this morning it was stuttering when I accelerated.  I dont think one has anything to do with the other but I need to figure out where to start with fixing this now, any suggestions?

How long since the last thorough tuneup?  Besides the points and plugs, be sure the plug wires are in good shape.  You might also try shooting some carb cleaner in the four air bleeds that are just to the front of the venturies in the carb.

I am changing over to the flame thrower III and ignitor III with new plug wires and plugs, they have been ordered and should ship this week.  I will try shooting carb cleaner like you said.  I think once I get everything on I will give a good tuning and hope it will be all good.  I did hook up a pressure gauge to do a little idle tuning and was getting a solid reading of 22 is this what the engine should be at once warmed up?
