i have a 57 f100 with a 272 manual tranny can i add a oil cooler to the rad its not heating up or anything but i just wanna do everything possible to make the truck stay running cool and if so how would i run the oil cooler

I'm not sure what you are trying to cool. If it is the transmission, you would need a pump in the transmission to circulate the oil. Our over the road trucks have transmission coolers, but they have a pump built in the transmission and we put a finned cooler in front of the after cooler next to the ac condenser. I don't see any need for an oil cooler on your transmission. The coolers in the radiators are for automatics which of course have a pump in them.

Assuming you're asking about engine oil coolers, unless you’re doing some heavy pulling, they are typically not required in order to keep engine oil temperatures within the ideal operating range. The length and sizing of the lines as well as the cooler itself can have a negative effect on the overall oil pressure and oil flow so that’s also something else to consider. A cooler is also going to increase the length of time it takes for the engine oil to reach its optimum operating temperature which means more contaminates in the oil not being purged by adequate heating and a subsequent increase in engine wear. Oil coolers are better suited for engines that are run at operating temperatures for longer periods of time and are not recommended for engines doing short hops. Sounds negative but engine oil coolers do not have a place on the run of the mill street drivers.
