There should be a plastic gear on the end of the cxable. Which will be driven by another gear in the transmission. These come with different tooth counts to allow you to correct your speedometer.

i can see something on the inside like it its the speedo gear tail but im not to sure imma try and pull it out and count the teeth and replace it and see if maybe that would work would that be my problem

Use a pair of needlenose t0 get hold of it and carefully pull out.If you lose it it may be gone for good as another member found out on his 55 Fairlane. If the cable is like the passenger car (1957-up)ones at the trans end there should be a clip used to hold the gear onto rhe end of the cable before installing.

I believe I received a PM from you about the speedo cable problem.  It said that the sender was not logged in when they sent it and it didn't have your name attached.  I tried to answer it, but it wouldn't send because there was no name to send it to.  I did write something, but I see everything here that I had written to you.

I like the thought that the speedo head might be binding.  I could see the previous owner pulling the speedo cable out to stop the annoying noise and erratic behavior.  Wish I could help you more...............

sorry about the not being logged in there is no noise when it spins just jumps around when i get going it moves n when i slow down it starts jumping
