FYI: Recent "Skinned Knuckles" article points out that Viton has become a generic term (like Kleenex), and each manufacturer has it's own chemical cocktail. While major auto companies with a reputation to protect may well insist on the highest grade DuPont version (and posses the resources for frequent testing, to insure their suppliers are complying), the anonymous nature of the small volume vintage after-market, and economically stressed retailers' inability to keep up with unstable asian producers, virtually guarantees that the cheapest grade is likely used (with resulting alcohol permeation/degradation).

Failing float needles/power valves/accel.cups are one thing, but mechanical fuel pumps that leak into the crankcase with resulting explosion are another. I will be more diligent in future about regular replacement.
