Because the EMC rules changed drastically for this years competition, I’m going with a completely different Y engine combination rather than the Y engine that was prepared for the 2007 and 2008 competitions. I’ve kept certain details relevant to this years combination under my hat as it’s definitely different and breaking into some areas not commonly seen in Y buildups. For those of you that have sent contributions or parts, I’ve been sending out a monthly newsletter that helps to keep those persons up to date but even the newsletter is rather vague regarding certain details as the old phrase ‘Loose Lips Sink Battleships’ comes into play. The issue after next of the Y-Block Magazine will start a series of articles on the EMC Y buildup with the first article being published after the EMC competition takes place but actually being written before the competition. This is a result of the lead times that Bruce needs for the YBM.
The dyno mule engine is just about together with some preliminary testing planned that will save dyno time on the actual EMC engine. The dyno mule engine had a crooked cam tunnel and this little problem by itself took a fair amount of work and time in which to fix. And this years EMC Y engine keeps bringing Murphy’s Law to the forefront as things that normally don’t go wrong have been doing exactly that. But I am making headway and still expect to have at least a good couple of weeks of solid testing before the engine is crated up and shipped to the competition site. For those of you going to the Columbus Shootout, We’ll sit down over dinner and have a round table discussion about some of the particulars.
