i have a 57 f100 i replaced my rear wheel cylinders cause they were both leaking i bleed the brakes and the truck would bearly stop and i had them adjusted and now the brake pedal is real stiff what would it be do i need to bleed them again or what can be causing this has brand new brake master manual brakes no brake booster

The problem you are experiencing sounds more like your flexible hoses or brake line are blocked.

Bleeding your entire system should show up what hose or line is the problem. If you find the fault is one of the flexible hoses, you could replace the faulty one. Personally I would replace them all if they are not new.

I presume you still have the original style brake master cylinder fitted with drum brakes all round.

It could be other things causing the problem, but this will at least give you somewhere to start.

do you have all drum breaks was there any clearance from the brake peddel rod to the back of the piston on the master cylinder, it my not be allowing the piston to return all the way back to relieve applied fluid pressure to return to master cylinder this will cause pressure to keep building up until your brakes lockup hope the helps Shakey PeteSmile

My vote goes with rick55. I replaced everything brake related on my 57 except the flex hoses and experienced the same issue. New hoses cured the hard pedal. If they have never been

replaced, I would start there. Good luck.

Replace the rubber hose. I just installed disc brakes on my bird and Could not bleed the rear brakes. The rubber hose was the problem. They seem to block quickly . Disconnect the line going to the hose and have some one pump the pedal . Thats what I did to find the problem.

If you have fluid flowing the next thing would be the rod in the master cylinder isnt allowing the plunger inside to return to full open position. Or the master cylinder is bad.

the pedal is pretty high up if the master was not working i think the little piston would be pushed in right and not coming coming in my case i think its not being pushed in

how do i adjust the brake rod
By 57f100 - 16 Years Ago
i looked under my dash today to look at the brake pedal and there is no way it can be adjusted there is a rod then its bolted to the pedal nothing in between nothing on either end so there is no way to adjust it

on some applications the push rod is made to length this type has to be cut to give the proper clearance and the tip rounded to fit ,other type are threaded on the mastercylinder end you have to remove the master to see how mush clearance you needSmileshould fit with no pushing on the piston when installed  Hope THis helps  Shakey Pete

I FIXED THEM they just needed to be bleed all the way around a few times there was air in the lines

how does air in a brake system give you a hard pedel normally the pedel is spongey or soft when air is in the system go figure!w00t
