hey guys so today is the first day i took the truck out to a car meet i put in a new temperature gauge oil pressure gauge volts meter and fuel gauge everything seems to be working great oil pressure is about 60psi volts read about 14 fuel is good but the temperature gauge is weird i hooked it up to were the old stock sending unit use to be on the head so i drove around had the truck running and the temperature gauge didnt move for nothing so i said ok i bought a mest up temp gauge but then after i parked about 5 minutes later it starts to move it moved to about 120 and didnt go any higher i was wondering if thats normal temp for the y-block or if its not getting the right readings from were its connected or is the gauge just broke any help would be great guys thanx

If this is a mechanical gauge check for a "kink" or pinch in the line.Had the same problem and found a pinch.There is fluid in the pipe which expands as it heats up.Be sure the "excess" pipe isn't wound up too tight.

No, you would be reading the water as it came from the radiator, would be the coolest spot in the system.

ok so if im not getting good readings from were the stock sending unit use to be and the water pump is a bad idea were else can i go for a good source for the temp guage

Are you using the stock sending unit or one that matches the aftermarket one?

im using the little rod that connects to the line all the way to the guage

Sounds like you have a mechanical gauge(no electric hookup?).You might want to drill and tap a hole in the intake back from the stat housing.Thats where I have mine located.

My thought is that the gauge is defective, not the location of the bulb. Take the gauge out and take it in the house. Put the bulb in a pan of water on the stove, and heat it up. If you have a cooking thermometer, put it in the pan and compare the readings, all the way to boiling. If no thermometer, boil the water and see if the gauge reads 212 degrees.

imma pull the gauge out on thursday and put it in boiling water and see if it moves if it does move would that mean that were its on now its not getting good readings or is not going in far enough

ok so forget thursday i took it out already when i get to work imma put the rod in some hot water then boil it and see if the gauge starts to move i looked at the line and it seems to be fine

ok guys i took out the temp gauge and i tested it at my wifes work i got a pot boiled the water and it read the boiling water perfectly what can cause this i have it hooked to the head i know there is water flow there cause the old stock temp sender was there and water comes out of there do you guys think maybe i have a air pocket thats not letting it read the water and if so how can i fix it
