Where’s the best source for copper header gaskets for the Y?  Looks like I’m needing some more for the EMC engine.

I bought one on eBay not too long ago. It was not too professional looking. I think the guy cut it out of copper stock with with a plasma cutter and then finished it with a die grinder. But it fit perfect and I think it will accomplish the purpose of a permanent fix on stock duals on a 56 passenger car with a Y-Block.

Guys - how thick are the copper gaskets commonly made? I don't believe I've ever used one.

Like say...16 gauge (sheet metal)? US std would then be .0598". The 12 gauge is .1046" - assuming copper comes that way. It would have to be pretty soft stuff too, in order to conform and seal.

I'm checking with our local guy that burns out shim stock with a laser (we send him a CAD print of the shape) to see if copper is something he has worked with before...

Ted, I have used these. They have a YBlock pattern available. You can get various thicknesses... Keep in mind you need O rings or they will fail.

I never heard back from my laser cutter guy.

Did find some useful material spec's - the type of copper used for soft gaskets must be: C110 (ETP) O60 temper - which about 100% pure copper that is dead soft annealed. Available thickness isn't exactly to sheet metal gauge standards - there is a .0647 inch size which matches nothing ... but a smaller one at .048 that is almost nuts on 18 gauge (.0478).

Neither was cheap - so if you get a deal on useful finshed parts take it.....
