hey guys i had a quick question.. i found a local outfit that makes a multi-carb adapter to bolt to a Y-block manifold.. it's a 2X2 adapter that bolts onto a late Y 4 barrell manifold and was wondering if anyone has used something like this and what there experience with it was.. My initial idea was to do this and get some decent cfm two barrells and set them on a progressive linkage so that i could have ok fuel economy when i wanted it but still dump the petrol and kick some ass when i needed to.. any thoughts?

Bill:

The subject of 3-2s vs single 4 barrel has been kicked around here several times.  Most agree that the single four beats 3-2s for driveability, power, reliability, and economy.  That's with manifolds built for 3-2s, not a conversion piece.  The only thing the 3-2s have over the single 4 is the WOW factor.  I say save your money.

I agree with John.

You will be spending a lot more money to get something that will function like a double pumper while making it a little more difficult for the fuel to get to the cylinders. It will look different. If that's what you want, go for it.

I'd stick with a standard 2-2bbl, the 4bbl.

To me those adapters looks like I didnt have enough money to buy a 3x2 intake, and it doesnt perform all that much compared to a 4bbl. Its like you are making a 4bbl out of a 4 bbl. Save your money as "Hoosier" says .

I've seen those adaptors on open cowled Hot Rods and they look pretty cool with a bunch of flashy old stuff around them, but as said before the single four barrel is the best way to go for milage, reliability and performance.  In the long run it's your call.  Wink

that's kinda what i was thinking, just needed some wiser opinions to verify.. i knew the old Strombergs would give much cfm but i heard SpeedWay is reproducing them with a higher cfm.. plus i just love the look of a 2 or 3 (or more) slash-cut velocity stacks stickin out through the hood.. i'll probably just do the 4 barrel for budget's sake.. and yeah it would look like i didn't have enough money for a 3X2 manifold cause i don't....
