Does anyone open them up from the spec of .015?  Seems like the Idle could clean way up, & since this is a tourque cam, is .015 isky's way of pretending it is a muscle cam?

I havent seen .015 . seems too small compared to the recommended .018 to .019. I would be concerned about burning a valve long term

Aftermarket cams can require a different lash than stock cams. Go by the suggestion of the cam manufacturer.

Set it to .015 that's what it's supposed to be. I'm running the E-4.

I’ve played around with valve lash on my E4 all the way up to 0.025”.  Although the idle characteristics and general drivability is very good at 0.025”, the valve train is excessively noisy.  I currently run the lash at 0.019” and there is still some noticable noise from the valve train but not near like it was at 0.025” lash.  At 0.015” lash, the rumpity rump of the cam is much more noticable but I did notice an increase in fuel mileage running the lash slightly looser than what was called for.  Like Dennis says, the cam does call for 0.015” and best wear will likely occur with it set there.  If there’s noise, there’s some hammering taking place so keep the noise to the minimum.

In looking at the E-4 profile on the CamDoctor it looks like .020" would be a safe number. Shouldn't be too noisy. In fact the rocker arm velocity at the moment it contacts the valve stem would be the same as a factory 57 cam at .018". You will also get rid of 25 degrees of seat timing going from .015" to .020".

This subject is beginning to sound like oil BigGrin.  For the record my E-4 is set at .017 lash cold.  Basically no noise or complaints.

I have them at .015, after I get the bugs worked out of the carb i'll sacrifice the valve cover gaskets & open them to .017.  This is a truck after all with highway gears in it currently.

Thank you all for the input.
