Ok, whos done this I have a 272 and a Y to Flathead trans adapter (wilco) what else is required, do you use a flathead clutch plate and Y pressure plate or a flattie pressure plate adapted to a y flywheel. I am too young to know...  Any help appreciated,

I may be too old to remember, but I think the whole clutch assembly from the y-block works because the spline was the same on the flat head as the y-block.

Crenwedge is pretty close. A Y flywheel, 10 inch pressure plate plus the flathead adapter and a deeper shoulder sealed bearing in the crankshaft to replace the standard pilot bushing. You could use an 11 in. pressure plate but cant see why it would be desired. There is a bearing on the shelf I can get the number from if you want. I have the setup in use now, second go around for engines. The trans is a 46 top loader type from a truck. Not much for performance or fast shifts but works fine in a cruiser. You get used to the non synchronized 2nd to 1st down shifts (because they dont happen unless you are standing STILL). Also am using the mini hitorque starter. Dust cover is a simple flat piece of aluminum cutout to fit on the front.

Thanks guys, any part numbers and or pics of installs would be appreciated, I am hoping to build up an "A" hot rod as a longer term project am collecting some parts being a 272 and wilco, and have found a 39 front end, 41 pick up trans and rear end including torque tube that I have yet to procure. Any ideas or pics of anything similar would help, or advice on parts to collect that would be desirable.

Here is some bearing ID info taken from a bearing I bought in '93: Japan H401 MRC 203SZZC . In case that isnt around anymore, here are numbers taken off of a bearing box which I purchased and installed last year. There isnt a manufacturer listed on the box. W-203-PP.FAFNIR S-3503-2RS.FAF .

I think you will want a Y-Block truck clutch and pressure plate and most likely the throwout bearing also. 1954-55 will be 10". That should give you a 1-3/8" 10 spline disc and the matching P.P. Don't try to use a car pressure plate. Definitely won't work. The throwout bearing is often referred to as a #2062. The Y-Block truck throwout should fit the pre-49 flathead clutch fork. The pilot ballbearing is a 6203 with double seals. The one's I have are marked 6203RS

2dr, no pics available here as everything is installed and out of sight. I can give one bit of advice that may be a help far in your future. If the pilot bearing needs to be removed from the crank, use a puller, not the grease/hydraulic method like is used with the solid pilot bearings. If you try to blow it out with hydraulics, the only thing that happens is the seal pops out. That is why I bought a new bearing last year .
