hi guys, dont know if this is the proper place, but thought i would try it here. sometime ago, i read pintoplumbers report on the jalopy drags held at beaver springs, and in his post he showed an old 57 ford drag car. since this bodystyle is one of my favorites(dont have any i dont like) i was intrigued to read that the car had later in the day displayed a for sale sign. later on in the week, another photo of this car appeared on a local website posted by a close friend of mine, so i called his to see if he remebered the phone # .he had it! called the owner and made arrangements to see this car. this car has 8 books of documented history all the way back to 1959 up to 1982 when it was put in storage and until beaver springs hasnt been out of storage. the engine has been turned over every so often and with the exception of some rust in the fender areas is a solid car. 60 over 312, lunatti cam , big heads, fmx, 457 gears, slicks, roll bar, fender headers, old sun tach, and a very nice pre 60 roll and pleat on the seats. with the 2 4 setup, alot of time slips plus record of money won, in the low 14s, but with the supercharger, and 2 4s , 12.80 time slips , and more than 1. what an awesome old car! this car belonged to a man that has 4 buildings full of old y stuff, did you notice i said "belonged"? happy to say this nows sits beside my y/block powered 32 3 window coupe which is beside the 56 bird in my garage. my wife is ecstatic!BigGrin

soon as my computer literate children come over to visit, will post some pics. did manage to talk him into selling me a fenton 3 deuce manifold and a weiand drag star 6 deuce, but havent even scratched the surface as to all this fellow possesses. will be talking to him tomorrow and will ask what his intentions are with what he has.

Ok, you have me drooling now!!!  Hmmmmm, maybe if I sell the kids............................nah, the wife won't let me do that!!!!Wink
By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
know what you mean about that "drooling" thing. soon as i saw the first pic of it my droolin began. been playing with it since I got it in the garage. have had the tank cleaned, new wheel cylinders, brake lines, pulled the t-bird valve covers and pan and noticed the balance marks on the crank. waitin for a new fuel pump and then will start it for the first time since it won 500.00 at richmond dragway in 1982 where it ran a 12.036,12.042.and 12,048.

I have trouble posting pictures on this site also. Seems to be more difficult than any of the other sites I visit. I finally gave up. But I still love the site, it just won't have any of my pictures (not that they are all that exciting anyway).

But keep trying, because I would like to see your find!!

Rob,

It's a 57. You, however are a 56 kind of guy. Wouldn't work, you'd get homesick, or carsick, whatever.

By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
thank you dennis. obviously it can be done.Wink after a week in the shop i looks much better than this, am only sorry i havent been able to post the latest pics, but at least you guys can see what it looked liked after 27 years in a garage.
By Unibodyguy - 16 Years Ago
Looks just fine to me, hopefully once you get it going somebody can put some drag strip passes on You Tube of this thing in action.BigGrin

Unbeleivable! What a find. When am I going to stumble upon something like that? I am still searching. Now have to wipe the dribble off the keyboard.
By glrbird - 16 Years Ago
Hope you keep the car's race paint patina even if you convert it to a street car.
By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
thank you, it was kinda incredible to find it,interesting more to bring it home, clean tank, replace a pump and fuel lines and after checking bearings, hear it run. now the question is , what to do with it. right now , it is a beautiful piece of garage art.Tongue
By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
any and all of my plans, include keeping all of the race patina, decals, lettering on the car.am torn between documenting , photographing all lettering, etc and then repairing the quarters, and lower front fenders then hopefully putting it back like it is, or just accept it cleaned up, which I have done and leave it in its orginal condition. actually even after a 27 year nap it doesnt look all that bad. encourage any and all thoughts from you guys. thanks

the question is , what to do with it.

Well.... it is built for drag racing...

I'd leave it like it is but take lots of pictures from every angle imaginable so that future restoration or repair can be made more easily.
By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
good idea, just recently as yesterday tried to contact the owner and see if he had any of the old trophies he won with this car. numerous timeslips with the money amount won in the upper right corner, pretty sure he done have any of that leftTongue
By glrbird - 16 Years Ago
If your not into racing the car, how hard would it be to hang some mufflers or baffels in the headers and put it on the street. with new radiator and fans you should be able to cool it. Any ideal of what the compression ratio might be? Most of all find what is the most fun for you to have with the car and enjoy it. Just emagine pulling in at the local car hang out one Saturday night!
By yblock32deuce - 16 Years Ago
the day after i brought it home, took it to a big car show and just had a ball showing it including 27 years of dirt still attached. next, to actually hear it come to life again really gave me a great deal of satisfaction. kinda washed it up, cleaned the interior and now am not sure what the next step for it is.

OK! WHAT!!!!!!

Deuce:

Is that your car for sale on Fordbarn?  If so, why didn't you put it on the swap page here?  There were several guys that seemed interested in it.  Maybe one of them would want it.
