hey all not sure if you knew this but Charlie and Tim are supposed to run El Mirage this weekend in the Brick.. Let's wish them the best of luck out there..
By Hollow Head - 16 Years Ago
Wow, is Charlie going to break the sound barrier this time? BigGrin Hope he will break at least the old record.
By mctim64 - 16 Years Ago
Not the sound barrier but I had a good time. BigGrin  Engine is making about the same HP as last year so with no expectations of records being broke Charlie let me drive the truck to get my "Rookie" run out of the way, we both want a Red Hat someday.  IT WAS SOOOO MUCH FREEKIN' FUN! BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Here's the video

Way to go Tim! Did you get a time slip? I quess you're a pit younger man now. Like a kid in the candy shop BigGrin... BTW, don't they allow you to power shift on the rookie run or why is your shifts so gentle Tongue?
By mctim64 - 16 Years Ago
I got two timing slips. Wink  Power shifts on the dirt will just tear it up.

Seppo - We were flying your club flag high..............

Lon and Chuck - You both get mentioned each time I answer questions like "Are you from Australia?", or "What's a Y-Block and why is it forever?"

Thanks guys for your support....

Tim did a great job and looked like an "Old Pro" right from the start.

Before each run he took time to collect his thoughts and mentally went through each step.  Great strategy for anyone, rookie or pro.

The video link above says it all...............Excellent job Tim...........We did have a great time.

Three years down on a ten year plan...................can't wait until next season.

awsome video tim.. glad you guys had fun and made it back safe..
By Daniel Jessup - 16 Years Ago
Tim, thoroughly enjoyed the video! If it were me behind the wheel, I would need a new pair of Hanes! w00t

Charlie -thanks for letting him take it out...a lot of us would pay good money to sit in the drivers seat like that and get that kind of experience from you.

Hey Charlie, now there's an idea how to finance the Comet.  w00t

I think most of this should be in the Racing section, so when I get home I will post some more pics of the last meet of the year in that heading. Wink

Charlie Mc,

You have to watch out for what you wish for.  I hereby extend an invitation to come visit, help prep the race truck at home and pit crew at a race, complete with airport shuttle if landing in Fresno.  Just let me know...............Next race is May 2010.

By mctim64 - 16 Years Ago
Charlie Mc, I second the motion. BigGrin

I was trying to load more pix and my computer locked up on me so now I am on Kathy's note book. I'll just add this link to give you guys an idea what El Mirage is like.  It's a blast of course. Wink

They are a bunch of great guys, I had a little trouble getting to run (missed the rookie meeting on Fri) and they fought for my right to run.  Also since I didn't get to run on Sat. one of the starters, you can see and hear him in the video, made sure I got two runs in on Sun. Wink  I'm still going over each run in my head, I know just what I'm gonna do next May to break Charlies record.  BigGrin

Shhhhhhhhh! don't tell him, he might take the truck away from me. w00t

By Hollow Head - 16 Years Ago
Oh my o my... Tim, I thought you're going to do 128 with that camper BigGrin. Go for it, put a cage in you truck and challenge Charlie! You know, good competion gets the best results from the people...
By Pete's Panel - 16 Years Ago
Hey Charlie, is that a "G" clamp on the rollbar [inline with Tim's shoulder] or is it the handle for the ejector seat??BigGrin
By 57FordPU - 16 Years Ago
Pete,

At the last race there were five spins and all stayed wheels down.  One of my friends went through the lights backwards at 207 mph.  Most of the cars with a low center of gravity would give the driver some confidence during a spin.  This 57 Ford pickup just doesn't qualify for a confidence builder.  If I were in a spin, I would definitely want an ejection seat!!!

Aussiebill,

Yes, I am listening.  I think Tim's adrenalin level is still quite high.  Actually, I am his biggest fan and nothing would make me happier than to see Tim's name in the record books too.  Don't worry, in pilot jargon, I'm still left seat.

Charlie you are to nice.  First you give Tim an adrenaline rush of a life time and now you extend an invitation to us to come visit.  Better watch out you may have a big pit crew.  If CA was a lot closer to IN I would be there for sure.  Bing

Corene and I have had a great opportunity to have a number of Y-Blockers visit while they were on the left coast.  Haven't met anyone who I wouldn't invite back.  If you come, we will treat you so many ways you are bound to like one of them (my dad's old saying).
By MikeLongIsland - 16 Years Ago
Congrats to you both, looks like a whole lot of fun, I am thinking if i took my truck in a run, it would be dark by the time i got back to the start.

Here are the results from the weekend. I was only 8 mph slower than the next class up. Smile  Compare E/PP to D/PP.

First, I gotta get out there one day. It looks like too much fun.

Do you care to talk about the things you tried with this engine? Remember, finding out what doesn't work is progress.
