Does anyone have a picture of a T-86 Overdrive laying around that they could send me? I'm going to Moultrie next weekend and if I run across one and can get a decent deal I may buy it. Also the total length if you know, I'll take a tape with me. Thanks .. email addy = ejstith@bellsouth.net

there are a few OD pics and maybe some info you can use on this thread from FTE, I know a lot of it is truck related but maybe a help. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/878553-transmission-lengths.html

I looked at the site and only one of the transmissions is a T86. It is the one with the tin cover, but it is for a pickup with the short tail section and U-joint flange on it. A passenger will have a spline for a slip joint and be much longer. If you want to put it into a 55/56 you will want a 10 spline input and a 16 spline output. They made 6 or 8 different ratio units for 6 cy, 272, 292, SW, etc. but they will all work. There is not enough difference in the ratios to really make a difference. but when you rebuild them, you must match the tooth count on the input shaft to the cluster gear. I would take a 1/2 inch wrench along and pull the tin cover off the top. Blue gears and a burnt smell means run low on oil and the tranny is junk. They use brass syncros which are prone to breaking, but can be replaced. I still draw on a supply I had from 45 years ago when I thought I had the fastest car in town, but I think they are still available. Also spin the gears. The low/reverse had a bad habit of tearing up the cluster gear. This is also fixable with a transmission. I will dig through my stuff and email some pictures if someone doesn't do it in the mean time. I have several in pieces and at least one that is all together.

I tried emailing photos, but they bounced. Here is a link to 2 pictures of a 1956 Ford T86 overdrive transmission.

Thanks a ton Ken, I got the pics. I'll look for one this weekend. I've got 2 T-89's that I've made one out of. No more power than my '56 has got I probably should have went with a bolt in right off the bat instead of messing with these T-89's although they are pretty much bullet proof no matter how much power one puts to them. Thanks again ..
