So I'm trying to look into fixing/rebulding my carb. It is the 2bbl off a 56 272. What carb is this? Is this the "teapot" carb? Who would rebuild these? Mine idles great, but open the throttle even one micrometer and she dies instantly.

I'd imagine you have a version of a '94' style carburetor... And it sounds like you need to replace the power valve.

That is her...now I just have to decide..do I fix it or send it to someone for a rebuild? I'm sure there are good 94 rebuilders...seems to have been in production from 38-57 so there must be a bunch out there.

I got a rebuilt one from NAPA about a year ago.I don't remember the price ,but I think it was around $100.00.

Wow...jeez...other than loosing the experience of rebuilding it myself, that almost seems like a no-brainer...I could still rebulid my original and keep it in the trunk for back up!

Nate IMHO, If you want that one rebuilt send it to a pro. . This doesnt mean you arent. But, a rebuilder knows carbs inside and out.They have the tools necessary to do the job. If you want another carb and rebuild the one you have then buy one from a reb uilder. Carburetor rebuilders in Az. have carbs and cheap too . May be less than 100.00 for it. Wyoming Carburetors is another good source. If you buy one at Napa or other place you will need to give them your old one as a core and then you are out a carb. Earl

Earl, good point. I just checked NAPA and don't see the carb there anyway. I'd like to get my original one rebuilt by a specialist in these era carbs...thanks for the suggestions. I'll check 'em out. ***EDIT****I just check "carburetor rebuilders AZ" in google and didn't find anything? Is there a different name?

NAPA may not show the carb on their website,but if you go to the store,they should be able to order you a carb.If you want to keep your old one,just pay them a core charge,which could be a little high.Most of the vendors that sell parts for old Fords have the kits for your carb.I just looked at Mac's latest catalog and they have it for less than $30.It's a very simple carb to rebuild.

Nate , my bad its called carburetor exchange. www.carburetorexchange.com . All this rain is making my brain soggy I guess. They do good work and are good to talk to . Reasonable prices also. Best to call . Earl Sometimes they want a carb to exchange. Good part is they dont require same type carb as replacement. Any will do.

If you have it rebuilt, there are a couple of things to watch out for. One is the needle - lots of them use a rubber tipped needle - BAD. Find some one who still uses the steel needle.
